About Singapore:
Singapore, known as the Paris of Southeast Asia and recognized as the one of the most powerful modern trading and financial hubs in Asia, is a jewel of multicultural contrasts where English, Tamil, Chinese and Malay are spoken. Singapore's clean and manicured-like tropical city, superb transportation system, excellent cuisine, modern commercial shopping centers, and colorful cultures make it a popular destination for everyone. The island of Singapore is connected to dozens of other islands that form part of Malaysia and Indonesia.  Singapore is an ideal gateway to South East Asia for its close proximity to Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand where hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors travel each year to discover the wonders of this region.

Economy:
Singapore, a highly developed and successful free market economy, enjoys a remarkably open and corruption-free environment, stable prices, and a high per capita GDP. The economy depends heavily on exports, particularly in electronics and manufacturing. It was hard hit in 2001-2003 by the global recession and the slump in the technology sector. The government hopes to establish a new growth path that will be less vulnerable to the external business cycle but is unlikely to abandon efforts to establish Singapore as Southeast Asia's financial and high-tech hub. Fiscal stimulus, low interest rates, and global economic recovery should lead to much improved growth in 2004.
