Introduction

Whether you wish to improve your resume, fulfill educational requirements or accomplish life-long dreams, internships abroad are an essential component to a student's educational experience, and represent a vital link to successful career preparation and personal development.  As global market economies become increasingly interdependent, employers are looking to hire new employees who have had international experience and who understand multi-cultural environments.  WISE Abroad encourages prospective participants to email us at wise@wiseabroad.org to assist you in choosing an internship destination that is suitable for you.

Program Options

Internship Program

Six week to fourteen week non-paying internship and cultural experience related to academic major or career goals in one of the countries shown in this table.

While most internship programs occur in the summer, WISE Abroad may place students in internships during the Fall or Spring semesters.  Students wanting to combine language instruction with an internship experience may also wish to consider taking language courses under our Internship and Language Training Program (see below). Living accommodations include home stay with a family, but private apartments may also be available.  However, host families are more economical and provide a key way for cultural immersion (students in Italy are housed in apartments).  Pre-departure and cross-cultural orientation information is provided, and cultural orientation is also given upon arrival. Group activities are provided, including weekend excursions, along with frequent contact with WISE Abroad country directors while in the host country.

Internship and Language Training Program

Eight to fourteen week program that combines non-paying internship and language study at a university or language institute in one of the countries shown in this table.

Program details are the same as the Internship Program listed above except for the program costs.

What is Included?

Price of Program Includes:

1. Cross-cultural orientation to customs, society, and government of the host country prior to participants' departure, and orientation session upon arrival;
2. Six week to eight week unpaid internship placement related to student’s major or career aspirations;
3. Two to three week language training course for those students who choose the language/internship program;
4. Assistance with getting your visa;
5. Welcome reception at airport and group ground transfers from airport to living location if arrival occurs on program date within the host country;
6. Living accommodations with a host family (in Italy students live in apartments);
7. Frequent on-site contact with program's country manager;
8. Group activities and excursions
9. Basic health care insurance and emergency assistance; and
10. In-country support from our staff.

Eligibility

U.S. and non-U.S. citizens are welcome to apply.

1. College students and recently graduated college students are eligible to apply to this program. Applicants must have at least a 2.25 GPA average (on a 4.0 scale).
2. A valid and current passport is required of all students prior to departure.
3. Students must have a demonstrated ability to function effectively in a cross-cultural environment and to uphold a positive image of their home university or country of origin.
4. Complete a contract form which includes all rules, regulations and requirements.
5. Basic to intermediate conversational ability in Spanish is required for participants interested in interning in Spanish speaking destinations, unless you plan to participate in the internship/language program.
