Overview and Location of Partner Universities
Pontificia Universidad Catolica
de Valparaiso and Universidad Diego Portales were founded in 1928
and 1993, respectively. These institutions have become
leading universities in Chile, with a student body of over
13,000 students. The Pontificia Universidad Catolica de
Valparaiso has five campuses
throughout the cities of Valparaiso, Vina del Mar, Quilue and
Quillota. It's main campus is located in Valparaiso,
Chile's main maritime port and the house of the Legislative
branch.
The schools of agricultural science, architecture, mathematics
and basic sciences, business and economics, law, philosophy and
education, and engineering offer many courses serving the needs of
Chile's second largest city. Universidad Diego Portales is
located in Santiago, and like the Pontificia Universidad
Catolica, its schools of architecture, mathematics and
basic sciences, business and economics, law, philosophy and
education, and engineering offer numerous courses for
international students majoring in a variety of disciplines.

Summer
Session
I and II
There are two summer
sessions available specifically to help students improve
their Spanish proficiency. Basic, intermediate and
advanced level programs are offered for a total of 90
contact hours or 6 credit hours at each level.
Basic:
Grammar: 45 hours
Conversation: 20 hours
Culture: 25 hours
Intermediate:
Grammar: 45 hours
Conversation: 20 hours
Culture:
25 hours
Advanced (*)
Chilean Culture 45 hours
Contemporary Chilean Literature 45 hours
Grammar 45 hours
Chilean social & political issues 45 hours
(*) Grammar is mandatory. Students must choose one
among the other three options to complete 90 contact hours

Fall
and Spring Session
Liberal Arts, Geography,
History, Business, agriculture and Engineering Program
The Fall and Winter programs offer a great
range of courses taught in Spanish according to the
students' level of Spanish and academic needs in liberal arts,
literature, geography, history, political science, business,
mathematics, engineering, economics, journalism, marine
science, arts, biology etc. Students take an average
of four courses per semester. The objective of these
courses is to improve the proficiency level of all students.
Students taking a total of four to five courses earn a total
of 12- 15 semester credits. Students must take a
minimum of 3 courses. Total instruction hours for four
to five courses is 180 - 225 hours. Each course is 45
instruction hours.

Admission
Requirements and Visa Application
Top
For beginning, intermediate, and advanced
level Spanish speakers. Students must have a 2.5 GPA. All
students must take a Spanish language assessment exam before
and upon
arrival in Valparaiso. The exam will test each student's
language proficiency level, and will determine the courses
that the student is eligible to enroll. Students who have
completed less than one year of college-level Spanish will
likely place into beginning level courses. Students who have
completed one full year of college-level Spanish will likely
place into the intermediate level courses. Students who have
completed two years of college-level Spanish will likely
place into advanced level courses.
WISE Abroad will assist you with your
student visa application. Summer session students will
not be required to obtain a student visa as long their stay
does not exceed 3 months We encourage you however to visit

Accommodation:
WISE Abroad will provide host family
accommodations for all students. Private living
arrangements may
also be available on a limited basis.
Excursions
Some of the exciting optional excursions
organized by our Country Director may include Santiago,
Horcon (small fishing village near Vina del Mar, Isla Negra
(Pablo Neruda's Pacific beach house), Valle Nevado Ski
center, among other fantastic destinations.

WISE Abroad Applications
are available online. Once you have completed the WISE
Abroad application, and submit it to our office via email
or mail with the other required documents, we will provide
you with an official admissions application of the host
university after we establish your eligibility. Both applications are due no later than three months before the academic courses begin
to enable ample time for our on-site Country Director and
staff to work with the college admissions office to process your
application, assist you with visa processing, and allow enough time to make
suitable housing arrangements for you (please see
prices and dates for
application due
dates by country). Applicants are notified of
their acceptance to the program within two to four weeks after
applications and required documents are submitted to WISE
Abroad. Applications may be emailed to

Pre-departure and cross-cultural orientation,
airport pick-up upon arrival,
ntuition
